The Tahoe Fund was founded in 2010 as a registered nonprofit in the States of Nevada and California. The goal of the Tahoe Fund is to be a major source of private funding for environmental projects around the Lake Tahoe Basin with an emphasis on forest health, lake clarity, sustainable recreation, transportation and stewardship.
The Tahoe Fund acts as a catalyst for bridging the funding gap. At the time the Tahoe Fund was established, there was and continues to be a gap between the existing environmental needs and the continued decline in public funding for Lake Tahoe. This kind of public-private collaboration sends an important message to the federal government and the state governments of California and Nevada that the private sector values and is financially committed to environmental restoration at Lake Tahoe, providing our political representatives the support they need for increased public funding.
The Tahoe Fund provides a common vision from which to build a sustainable future for this irreplaceable resource and for those who cherish and enjoy this mountain landscape. Lake Tahoe lies within two states, five counties and hosts an extensive network of local, state and federal agencies. Tahoe Fund programs directly benefit a population base of 40,000 full-time residents and 15 million visitors to the Basin.

The organization represents many interests within the Tahoe Basin, with a board of directors comprised of leaders from California and Nevada, North Lake Tahoe and South Lake Tahoe, public and private organizations, and environmentalists and the business sector. Creating a sustainable Lake Tahoe
A number of critical environmental improvement projects have been identified by various agencies in Tahoe. But there is a gap between the existing environmental needs and the available funding for these essential projects. The Tahoe Fund’s goal is to fill some of this gap while acting as leverage for additional public funding from our federal and state partners.
Environmental Projects
Our generous donors help ensure the successful completion of critical environmental improvement projects that restore the Lake’s famed clarity, improve and expand outdoor recreation, and educate the public on how to better care for our environment. Tahoe Fund donors have supported more than 130 projects that will improve lake clarity, expand outdoor recreation, create healthier forests, improve transportation and build new stewards of our environment. Since our funding, we have leveraged $20M in private funds to secure more than $80M in public funds.
